TIRANA, March 19 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke on Saturday about a slowdown in public and private investment, after the almost threefold increase in raw materials, such as iron ore 3 weeks into Russian military aggression of Ukraine.
Prime Minister Rama’s statement was made during a meeting with farmers in Durrës to outline the Social Resilience Package approved by the government.

“Economies today are closely connected. As we make plans, events are beyond our reach. As we were moving ahead with our plans and work, all of a sudden earthquakes befell us and as if these two were not enough, we have to cope with the consequences of a war that takes place elsewhere but because today’s economy is closely connected, it is felt here as all over the world, as it is felt in Australia that has no connection to other continents. You have to be very bold not to look around and say that this has nothing to do with us. Because the whole world is affected by this situation, because a great trading power that has entered the war, due to the fact that it owns a considerable part of the natural resources of oil, gas and raw materials, from iron to cereals, either in Europe or beyond, such as Russia and one of the main producers of cereals, iron and raw materials such as Ukraine are at war,” said Rama.

According to Rama, these are two important markets that have hit the whole world.

“Today most of the public and private investments has been put on hold, because iron has increased 3 times. “Because our contracts for the Llogara tunnel or other investments cannot continue, otherwise they would go bankrupt, “, Rama said.
The Prime Minister said that the government is caught in between two decisions, either to increase finances or to ask companies to stop until the situation improves.

“But putting investments on hold means to leave thousands of people out of work and to give up on all the taxes that you have planned to collect from those investments, acknowledging that you are getting into a spiral of economic decline, because it is the investments that grow the economy. We need income to increase salaries and pensions, and these income come from investments,” he said.
