TIRANA, Feb 9 /ATA/ – Albanian judges, prosecutors, investigators and judicial police officers have taken part in FBI-led training on cybercrime and child exploitation investigations, the U.S. Embassy in Tirana said on Monday.

The Embassy said growing exposure of children to online exploitation and cyber threats requires a coordinated response and stronger professional capacity among justice and law enforcement institutions.

“There is no greater responsibility than keeping our children safe. However, now more than ever children are susceptible to cyber exploitation and threats online,” the U.S. Embassy said in a post on the social media.

The Embassy said in its statement it has supported the participation of Albanian judges, prosecutors, investigators, and judicial police, in an FBI-led training on Cyber Crime and Child Exploitation Investigations at the U.S. International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest.

According to the U.S. Embassy, “these officials joined other experts from around Europe to discuss the proliferation of child exploitation material over the internet, learn how harmful material is dispersed, and how to identify online trends in cyber stalking, victim identification, cyber exploitation, and other violations.

The Embassy noted that “these skills will help prepare Albanian law enforcement and judicial experts to identify, investigate and prosecute those who would use the internet to harm our children.”

The initiative underscores the importance of international partnerships in combating cybercrime and highlights child protection as a shared priority requiring sustained cooperation and coordinated action.

TIRANA, Dec 15 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama called for a serious, inter-institutional reflection on Sunday to ensure the success of Albania’s justice reform, following a public clarification by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over a recent incident at the Prime Minister’s Office.

In his comments on the X platform, Rama clarified that his criticism was not about illegal firearms possession, but rather the “ethical and legal ignorance” of NBI investigators who attempted to enter his office while armed.

“The NBI has publicly responded to one of a series of episodes reflecting a lack of professional ethics within the body, which I addressed today in the FLASIM (Let’s Talk) podcast,” Rama said. “They cited the law allowing them to carry weapons, but my concern was their ignorance of the ethical and legal principles that led them to attempt to enter the Prime Minister’s Office armed.”

The government head added that while this particular incident might seem isolated, it was indicative of broader concerns about NBI’s professional standards.

“If this were an isolated case, I wouldn’t have mentioned it,” he said. “Unfortunately, this was the mildest example of ongoing ethical and professional gaps within the NBI.”

In conclusion, Rama reiterated the need for a “serious, professional, and inter-institutional” approach to ensure the reform’s success, emphasizing the importance of judicial independence.

“We must protect the success of the justice reform and safeguard judicial independence,” Rama said. “At the same time, we cannot allow the cure to become a bigger problem than the disease, jeopardizing freedoms, rights, and the country’s administration and economy.”
