TIRANA, May 27 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/- Tirana Prosecution Office has reopened the investigation into the murder of Aleks Nika on January 21, 2011, on “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard.

Sources from the Prosecution office told ATA on Thursday that “regarding the January 21 case, investigation into the murder of Aleks Nika have been reopened.”

Marjeta Zaimi has been appointed leading prosecutor in the investigation into the murder of Aleks Nika.

The investigation into the murder of Nika was suspended because there were no suspects.

Aleks Nika is one of the 4 protesters killed during a SP protest on the ‘Dëshmorët e Kombit’ boulevard in front of the Prime Minister’s office in 2011 by the Republican Guard.

For the murder of Ziver Veizi, Faik Myrtaj and Hekuran Deda, the Tirana Court of Appeal sentenced the former head of the Guard, Ndrea Prendi, to 1 year in prison and the Guard officer Agim Llupo to 3 years and a few months.

Following the news of the reopening of investigations into Nika’s murder, Deputy Prime Minister Erion Brace reacted by emphasizing that “nothing is forgotten, nothing is closed without delivering justice.”

According to him, no murder is closed without being investigated, tried and punished.

“The murder is neither covered up by silence nor by a biased and corrupt political process. Even all these are reasons for a murder to be investigated to the end,” Brace emphasizes.
