TIRANA, Oct. 7 /ATA/ – Three to five experienced international companies have expressed interest in bidding to operate Albania’s Tirana-Durres railway line, including the main station serving Tirana International Airport, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Karakaçi said the selection process was under way and expected to be completed soon.

He said all contracts for the project had now been signed, including those covering the railway, stations and electrification.

A key part of the process is selecting an international operator that will provide the rolling stock and operate the line according to international standards, Karakaçi said.

“The good news is that three to five highly experienced international companies have expressed interest and want to take part in the competition to become the international operator. The process is under way and we will finalise it very soon,” he said.
