Also known as the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, part of the Mediterranean TEN-T Corridor of the EU network, which connects Central Europe and Northern Italy with the Balkans in Southeast Europe, with Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Greece, passes through the territory of our country.

Prime Minister Edi Rama stated while presenting the government program that “this will be the mandate of the largest construction site of the Blue Corridor.”

“The largest ever in the history of road infrastructure development in Albania, where in the span of five years we will have a highway built up to European standards from Muriqani to Fier, passing through Milot, Thumana, Kashar and Rrogozhina,” Prime Minister said.

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, highlighting the importance of this corridor informed that the competitive bidding will open in the next months to come.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy launched in July last year an international competitive bidding for the design, construction and operation of the Milot-Fier road axis, part of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor but due to pandemic restrictions, companies had difficulty accessing financing.

The Milot-Fier segment is the most important part of the Adriatic-Ionian corridor. The project entails the construction of new road tracks, 53 km at length, and 62 km, which will be on the existing track, but rehabilitated in category A and category B.

Part of this project is the construction of the intersection which connects this segment with the Tirana bypass, thus giving the capital the opportunity to integrate as soon as possible in this network, but also the segment Thumanë-Rinas and Rinas-Tirana.
