TIRANA, Oct 21 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Friday that Albania has the lowest inflation rate in the region, which is attributed to the government’s decision to freeze the price of energy.

“Right now we have to cope with the spiraling inflation of the war which, unlike the earthquake that fatally hit several dozen families and several thousand people, unlike the pandemic, which could be contained by staying at home, is inevitable, because suffice it to put your hand in your pocket and inflation will cause what you have to evaporate. The reason why inflation here has not increased as high as in other countries of the region is that the price of energy has remained unchanged,” Rama said.

Rama said that if the price of electricity for businesses had increased, part of the increase would have burdened the consumers.

But, the Prime Minister said, inflation still remains a concern, adding that the government will continue to alleviate the effects, especially for the needy strata.

“Despite the fact that it has not increased as much as in the region, it is still a concern and we are doing our best to buffer it, starting with those who need it the most. We indexed pensions twice and it was the first time it happened. We have continued to increase the support for mothers with 3 children, now we will double the economic assistance for mothers with 2 children. We have increased salaries for everyone,” Rama said. /j.p/r.e/sm/
