In her remarks, Minister Koçiu praised the work of doctors and nurses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, a challenge that overwhelmed the entire health system worldwide.

The minister said that the healthcare service in Albania has acquired a very large and wide experience in management of COVID-19.
Currently, the Infectious Diseases Service follows protocols recommended by the WHO and the most prestigious world associations.

“When we talk today about the post-Covid period, I’m sure we all feel proud that we managed to overcome a pandemic that threw the entire globe in crisis and we managed to emerge stronger, better prepared and to draw lessons to understand that we have done a lot and we still have more work ahead to do, to improve ourselves even more, the infrastructure where we work and the quality of the service we offer,” Minister Koçiu said.

The minister stated that “we are working to strengthen the laboratory capacities of the PHI because we realized that surveillance, prevention and early diagnosis are important to prevent or anticipate any challenge that comes our way.”
Koçiu pointed out that “today we have an adequate infrastructure for coping with the next challenges, meanwhile more financial support has been allocated for the health system in 2024 , regarding the infectious disease service at QSUT, but not only there. The “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center will receive increased support in terms of medical devices and infrastructure.”
