Currently, the relevant institutions are supporting farmers and agritourism businesses to cultivate these varieties carefully and according to the highest production standards.

The Qarres melon, known for its intense aroma and naturally sweet taste, is one of these varieties.

Today, the indigenous Qarres melon variety is present in agritourism kitchens and is available as seed for farmers to cultivate, mainly in central and south-eastern Albania.

Through this initiative, the Ministry and the German Sustainable Rural Development program aim to preserve indigenous agricultural products, the flavors of the past, and integrate them into the future of Albanian cuisine.

This initiative promotes not only biodiversity conservation but also the improvement of food system sustainability and the strengthening of links between producers and consumers, bringing sustainable benefits throughout the food value chain.
