TIRANA, March 10 /ATA/ Minister for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj shared data to show how government policies have reduced the fiscal burden on citizens and businesses, providing direct support to increase family income.

“Two visions running in opposite directions for the future of Albania,” – says Ahmetaj, as he brings to attention how the citizens have increased their income under the SP government and how their figures were at minimum level under DP government, referring to statistics from the World Bank.

“The figures are a fact, not an opinion. And the facts instead of opinions tell the stark difference between two governing periods for Albanians, according to the World Bank report “Poverty and Shared Prosperity 2020,” Ahmetaj says.

According to the figures, during the years 2008-2012 under the DP government, the per capita income of 40% of low-income population have decreased on average by 1.22% / year.

During the years 2014-2017 under the SP government, the income of families that account for 40% of low income population have increased on average by 2.46% / year.

According to him, the effects of leftist policies centered on the citizen during the last 8 years have directly supported Albanian families.

“Only through fair progressive tax, 97% of Albanians pay less today than they did with the flat tax in effect. USD 960 million have returned to the citizens in these 8 years,” said Ahmetaj.

About 110,000 small businesses pay zero tax today. Manufacturing, IT, tourism, agriculture, have been supported through fiscal incentives and as a result, have generated jobs for hundreds of thousands of families and young people.
