TIRANA, Jan 27 /ATA/ The Head of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at the IPH, Silva Bino, stated on Wednesday that the new variant of COVID-19 has not been detected in Albania.

“We have investigated several cases that have had contact with a case abroad and we have not detected any new variants of the coronavirus. So far we have no evidence or epidemiological data about the new strains of the virus. We use a method that helps identify the new variant. But so far we have not detected it,” said Bino.

In a televised interview, Bino said the infection is likely to happen after the first dose of the vaccine, as the human body has not produce enough antibodies for long-term protection.

“This can happen because the body cannot produce antibodies immediately after the first dose and during all this period until the second dose the person could be susceptible to infection. After getting the first dose of vaccine we should not let the guard down as we are not protected immediately after the vaccination. The second dose is after three weeks, when the body has created antibodies. “The first does not create full protection, it will take up to two weeks before the body starts producing antibodies and it depends on the organism,” said Bino.
