TIRANA, July 18/ATA/ Head of the Parliamentary group “Democracy and Integration” Shpëtim Idrizi proposed today to the Assembly the approval of the draft declaration “On strengthening cooperation with the Republic of Greece and abrogation of the law of war”.

In this draft statement, the government is required to make every effort with the Greek government to abrogate the Law of War from Greece and the legal consequences that stem from this law.

Idrizi said that the law in question is absurd. “Greece maintains with us the law of war, a state of war and sequestration of property, and meanwhile, on the other hand, we have a Treaty of Friendship”, he said.

“This statement also requires from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs that following the confirmed contributions of our foreign policy for good neighborliness, peace and security, to regularly inform the Parliament of Albania and our Euro-Atlantic NATO partners and the EU for the systematic efforts of the government of the Republic of Albania, in cooperation with the government of the Republic of Greece, to resolve this issue carried over from the past”, emphasized Idrizi.

In the statement it is said that, “While appreciating the great importance and the very good level of bilateral strategic relations with Greece, as well as the mutual will to improve and deepen them, the Assembly of Albania notes that unlike the spirit of “Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, Good Neighborliness and Security”, as well as from the bilateral political will repeatedly expressed, the Law of War No. 2636/40, still remains in force and continues to produce some of the negative effects that arise when states are in a state of war”.

The draft declaration forces the Assembly to invite the Parliament of the Republic of Greece to support the efforts of their government for implementation of the political will expressed more than once by the Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Greece for the abrogation of the Law of War with Albania, and in this spirit positive to consider and approve any legal instrument that would serve to correct this situation that does not match the realities of bilateral relations Albania-Greece.

Also, the draft declaration requires that the Assembly of the Republic of Albania ask the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania to make every effort with the government of Greece for the abrogation of the law of war and the legal consequences arising from this law. /p.s./
