TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/ The time required for issuing identification documents to Albanian citizens living abroad will be halved. This was confirmed by the administrator of the state-owned document production company, “IdentiTek,” during a visit by Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha to the company’s facilities. The second novelty is the provision of application opportunities through mobile offices in cities where citizens reside.

“IdentiTek has launched two key initiatives in this area. The first is the reduction of the time needed to produce identification documents. We’ve developed a new technological module, which will be available to citizens starting this month, that significantly shortens the processing time. As a result, our diaspora citizens will be able to receive their identification documents in 15 days instead of 30. Additionally, we’ve begun visits to embassies and consulates with higher diaspora traffic to ensure that each procedure runs smoothly and to proactively address any potential issues that may arise in the future,” said Freskida Halilaj, administrator of IdentiTek.

The Minister announced that, for the first time, out of country voters will be able to participate in the parliamentary elections. He also emphasized that as the May 11 elections are approaching, all resources need to be mobilized to simplify the process of applying for and producing passports and ID cards.

“One of the most important processes is the application of Albanian citizens at consulates wherever they are, regarding the issuance of ID cards and passports. IdentiTek is leading this process, managing it through its operational teams, which are sent to consulates and embassies of our country to assist with applications and facilitate this procedure,” emphasized Minister Hoxha.

“We arranged visits in November to Germany, Italy, and Greece, and starting in January, we have scheduled visits to embassies and consulates in other countries, including the United States and Turkey. In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we will implement ‘Mobile Applications,’ as we refer to them. This involves sending a dedicated team from IdentiTek’s headquarters to specific countries on predetermined dates, enabling our citizens abroad to apply outside of embassies and consulates. Moreover, in countries where we see demand but lack an embassy or consulate, we will address these needs by dispatching specialized teams,” said Administrator Halilaj.

Measures have also been taken regarding human resources to ensure optimal capacity and prepare for the anticipated surge during the upcoming electoral process. The full production capacity is 6,000 passports and 15,000 identity cards daily.
