TIRANA, Feb 17 /ATA/ On Wednesday, the United Opposition has sent a letter to Minister of Interior, Bledi Çuçi, Parliament Speaker Gramoz Ruçi, the Chairman of CEC, Ilirian Celibashi, and for knowledge to the US, EU, OSCE ambassadors, requesting the extension of ID card cards and biometric passports’ validity until April 30, 2021.

In this letter, the United Opposition asks from the Ministry of Interior to take measures to extend the validity of the identification documents of Albanian citizens until April 30, 2021.
The letter signed on behalf of the opposition by Gazment Bardhi raises concern about a large number of Albanian citizens whose ID cards and biometric passports have expired and who are unable, including the economic reasons, to renew it.

“According to official information obtained from General Directorate of Civil Status, there is a total of 1,062,000 citizens who risk missing the chance to cast the ballot on April 25, 2021 because their identification document has expired or expires until election day,” the letter reads.

According to the opposition, “this measure should not keep us from encouraging the Albanian citizens to renew their identification documents.”
