TIRANA, Sept  11 /ATA/ The Museum of Medieval Art in Korça continues to appeal to local and foreign tourists.

According to visitor statistics, the number of visitors to the Museum of Medieval Art in Korça has increased during 2022.

August 2022 marked a 30% increase in the number of visitors compared to August 2019.

Specifically, in August of this year, the museum was visited by 1,541 visitors, while in August of last year, by 1,185 visitors.

According to MKAM, visitation at the museum during this year is at an all-time compared to corresponding periods in previous years.

Considered one of Albania’s most important museum centers, it opened its doors in 1980 and underwent restoration in 2016.

About 400 icons are exhibited in the new building of the museum, of which 250 icons are displayed for the first time.

The exhibition is in a contemporary style with a chronological order of the development of iconographic craftsmanship in Albania. The showcase of the heritage of Medieval Art takes you back to the genesis of mysticism and sacred rituals.

Its exhibits and rich funds consist of historical, cultural and artistic objects of the medieval period, which are mainly related to the Byzantine and post-Byzantine Christian heritage. Icons, stone objects, collection of objects made of precious metals, carved wood, textiles, paper, etc., are examples of a wide variety of priceless values.
