PRISHTINA, Feb 24 /ATA/ – The Secretary General of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG), Iakovos Filippousis, said Kosovo’s preparations to host the 21st edition of the Mediterranean Games are progressing in the right direction, describing the event as a major opportunity for the country’s sporting and infrastructure development.

During meetings with local sports officials in Prishtina, Filippousis praised the commitment of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo and national sports federations, saying their work towards the 2030 Games in Prishtina is gaining particular recognition.

“The leadership of the National Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federations deserves our recognition, especially as preparations for ‘Prishtina 2030’ are under way,” Filippousis said.

“The 21st edition of the Mediterranean Games represents an extraordinary opportunity for Prishtina and Kosovo – for the state and its capital – not only on the field of play, where nations will compete at the highest level across 28 sports, but also in terms of building modern and sustainable infrastructure,” he added.

Such investments – he went on saying – would strengthen athlete preparation, support long-term sports development and raise performance standards for years to come.

According to Filippousis, hosting the Games will have a multi-layered impact on Kosovo, leaving a lasting legacy in sport, infrastructure and institutional capacity, while reinforcing Pristina’s position on the map of major international sporting events.
