According to the procedure, the “Voltalia” company exceeds the capacity of 350 megawatt offered, allowed by the tender documentation, by 5 mega. This company will be classified as a reserve company”, announced the head of the bid evaluation commission.

This auction had the criterion which allowed competitors to enter the competition with a park not smaller than 10 megawatt/hour and not larger than 100 megawatt-hour. The Ministry offers the winner a contract for the sale and purchase of electricity for a period of 15 years at an unchanged price, proposed by the shortlisted bidders. In any case, the price could not be higher than the set ceiling of 59.97 euros per megawatt-hour.
Participating in the auction were Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, the Ambassador of Switzerland in Tirana, Ruth Huber, as well as the director of the EBRD.
Deputy Prime Minister Balluku described the auction as another milestone in the Albanian energy sector.
According to her, this auction takes another very important step in the policies of the Albanian state for the transformation of our country into a net exporter of energy.
“Our country has already been praised by all our international partners as a success story in the development of open auctions for the construction of renewable energy sources for all the countries of the Western Balkans and the member countries of the Energy Community,” she said.
Balluku pointed out that the best international practices were applied in this process, having, according to her, at every step of the way the support and professional consultancy of the EBRD, as well as the assistance of the Swiss embassy, through SECO.
“Thanks to transparency and correctness during these processes, we have ensured a significant participation of large prestigious international companies in the energy field”, she said.
Balluku brought to attention the other 2 procedures followed, which she described as successful, the two photovoltaic parks of a considerable size, that of Karavasta 140 megawatt per hour, where Albania benefits 50% of the production and the park of Spitalla. The Karavasta park is in operation starting from February 2024, while the Spitalla park is under construction.
