It’s evolving sustainably, shifting from weekend excursions to a robust, week-long business model.

Supportive policies and incentives have boosted local interest in this enterprise, driving rural economic growth and enhancing tourism.

Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted today in the social media Huqi agri-tourism in Radë, Durrës, as a premier example of Albania’s thriving, sustainable rural tourism sector.

“Supported by the Agriculture and Rural Development Agency, Huqi agri-tourism in Radë (Durrës) has successfully expanded its operations, providing high-quality traditional gastronomy and accommodation in wooden cabins”, wrote Rama.

Huqi agri-tourism offers visitors direct engagement with nature through farm visits, water activities and guided tours. By combining agricultural education with tourism, it acts as a key driver for sustainable rural development and local economic empowerment.

The government is encouraging mainly emigrants, but not only them, to invest in the land and properties of their ancestors in mountainous areas.

The ‘Mountain Package’ encourages investment in ancestral lands to revitalize rural areas, offering favorable conditions—including 10 years of tax relief—for returnees and local entrepreneurs. /j.p/r.e/p.s./

During the conversation with PM Rama, Huqi talked about his journey in this business, which started with the cleaning of an old coffee mill to grind and sell coffee in packages and that nowadays its aroma can be felt near the Pyramids of Egypt. Huqi said that he owns half of his success to the workforce.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that even today there are businesses that have not managed to realize that the workforce is their greatest strength of a business.

He took the opportunity to say that in this context the government has launched the anti-informality action across the country to formalize the labor market, as one of mechanisms to ensure dignified pensions.

Further on, Rama said that since 2013 more than 300,000 employees have been taken out of informality and entered the labor market.

Rama emphasized that, “Pensions are a direct support scheme of those who are working for those who have retired”.

The prime minister underlined that there is some kind of awareness regarding this situation and that he believes that this action will go ahead.

“Mulliri i Vjetër” has 547 employees in Albania today. In total worldwide, there are about 700 employees.

Huqi said that the average gross salary is 1,000 euros, while the minimum is 600 euros.

“I am proud to say that we did not have any problem for staff”, he said. /r.e/p.s./

Albanian government is promoting agritourism by offering incentives and grants to support local characteristic agriculture products. The incentives are aimed at giving a boost to agro-tourism, currently in its initial steps but with a growing number of restaurants, wineries, bee and fruit farms offering tourists authentic local products.

Prime Minister Edi Rama posted Friday images showing Huqi agritourism enterprise in the village of Rade, Durres municipality.

“Huqi agritourism in Rade village, Durres, has expanded its activity thanks to the government support through the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (ARDA) to deliver on a project to transform the surrounding lake area into a spectacular destination,” PM Rama said.

The IPARD III Programme with a fund of 150 million euros jointly provided by the European Union and the Albanian government, is slated to be launched in September to support further development of agriculture and agritourism in Albania.

Albania has also undertaken a campaign to brand its unique agriculture products to boost agro-tourism through the promotion of quality authentic Albanian products such as olive oil, mountain tea, medicinal and aromatic plants considered some of Albania’s rarest riches.
