TIRANA, May 10 /ATA/ – Alexis Hupin, the Head of Political Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Albania, said Monday that the justice reform in Albania is a work in progress, a reform that cannot be done overnight.”

Addressing a ceremony marking the Justice Day, Hupin noted that the justice reform in Albania will take its time to finalize, just like “the today’s EU justice system has taken its time to reach the point of consolidation.”

“I think that the development of case law, EU jurisprudence and our history in terms of justice in general teaches us a lesson, which is applicable in the case of Albania’s justice system. It is the lesson of continuous improvement, gradual work we will have to do every day and every week in order to achieve a lasting improvement and to bring change,” Hupin said.

“The truth is that we have yet to complete this process and we still have a long way to go to finalize it. The vetting process will have to be intensified, and not only that, but also the efficiency of the courts and the prosecutor’s offices will have to increase,” Hupin stated.

Hupin noted that Albania School of Magistrates needs more support and more substantial reforms.

“The Vetting process has created many vacancies in the justice system, therefore more assistance should be provided to the School of Magistrates so that these vacancies can be filled in the best possible way,” he said, pledging continued EU financial assistance and political support in collaboration with the United States.
