TIRANA, Oct 24 /ATA/ – Leaders from academia, government, and international partners gathered in Tirana on Friday to discuss how investing in people can power Albania’s growth and European Union (EU) path.

The high-level conference, co-organised by the EU, UN, and World Bank highlighted the key role of universities in shaping skills for the future and linking education with jobs.

Addressing the event, the EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, said that investing in people is not a cost but brings great benefits for our societies and economies.

“Investment in people is not a cost, it brings a huge return to our societies and economies. The process of EU integration is accelerating for Albania, and human capital development stands at the very heart of this journey. It will also be one of the yardsticks of Albania’s preparedness to join the EU. Therefore, we will continue to support Albania in this journey – investing in people, empowering vulnerable communities, and building together a future based on shared values and opportunities,” Ambassador Gonzato said in his remarks.

Federica Mogherini, Rector of the College of Europe in Tirana and former EU foreign policy chief, also attended the conference.

TIRANA, Feb 9 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Friday that Albania’s ranking first for the human capital of its public administration by SIGMA had made him feel proud, although he was initially skeptical about such a finding.

However – Rama went on saying – the so-called screening process in Brussels, clearly showed that the ranking was truly objective.

“We have a problem with the performance assessment of our public administration, because it has achieved top scores. However, it can’t be that way, because we would claim that our public administration is equally effective like the world’s leading companies, including Apple and Google. We know this is not true,” PM Rama said in his remarks at a conference on modernization of the public administration.

The government head said cabinet member and international senior experts will work to modernize the country’s public administration.
