TIRANA, July 7 (ATA) – The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has revoked the house arrest of Jamarbër Malltezi, accused in the “Partizani” sports complex privatization case.

Malltezi will now be subject to a financial bail condition of 3 million leke, the court ruled on Monday.

Malltezi, son-in-law of former PM Sali Berisha, criticized the earlier court rulings as politically motivated.

Malltezi was arrested at Rinas Airport in October 2023 and placed under house arrest in November 2023. He faces charges of passive corruption and money laundering, while Berisha is accused of using his position to illegally favor his son-in-law in the privatization process, causing financial harm to the state.

Berisha has dismissed the allegations as political.

Other defendants include businessmen Fatmir Bektashi, Xhimi Begeja, and Andia Pustina, as well as involved companies.

TIRANA, Jan 25 /ATA/ – Special Court of Appeals against Corruption and Organized Crime upheld Thursday the first instance court’s ruling that former Prime Minister Sali Berisha must remain under house arrest.

The session lasted a few minutes and judge Ilirjana Olldashi decided to reject the motion for a softer security measure after hearing the arguments provided by the former PM’s lawyers.

Berisha’s lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj said that the court’s ruling was “a political one.”

“The only goal is to isolate Berisha,” Gjokutaj said, adding that an appeal will be filed with the High Court.

Former PM, Sali Berisha faces passive corruption charges for having favored his son-in-law, Jamarber Malltezi in the privatization of a land used to build apartment blocks. Berisha has been under arrest since December 30.

Two days ago, the former PM appeared for the first time before prosecutors, who questioned him in relation to this case.
