TIRANA, April 25 /ATA/ The Regional Hospital Center ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ in Kavajë has been granted the status of Municipal Hospital, marking an important step within the ongoing hospital reform. This reform aims to decentralize healthcare services and enhance access for citizens, directly contributing to improved quality of healthcare for both local residents and tourists.

During an inspection of the renovated facilities of Kavajë Hospital, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Evis Sala, together with the political coordinator for the district, Taulant Balla, announced that the institution has now been granted the status of Municipal Hospital. This designation provides the hospital with greater autonomy in the management and organization of its services.

Minister Sala emphasized that this transformation is part of a broader vision to strengthen the healthcare system nationwide. ‘I have come with good news. The Regional Hospital Center of Kavajë has gained autonomy from the University Hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi” and has become a municipal hospital. This is both an innovation and a necessary step within the hospital reform we are implementing in Albania. The aim of the reform is, first and foremost, to bring services closer to patients so they can access health care without having to move from one hospital to another, while also empowering regional and municipal hospitals,’ she stated.

The new Director of the Municipal Hospital of Kavajë, Arben Rrugia—a distinguished and well‑known figure in the city’s medical community—was formally introduced and will lead the institution through this new stage of development.

In her address to doctors and healthcare staff, the Minister urged close collaboration, a continuous improvement in service quality, and a collective commitment to prioritizing patients and meeting the needs of the wider community.

Taulant Balla, Chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, stated that this transformation of healthcare services was necessary for Kavajë, both to meet the needs of the local population and to accommodate the large number of tourists visiting the area.

Balla noted that approximately one million tourists visit Golem, many of whom, in cases requiring specialized medical treatment, have had to be referred to the University Hospital Center (QSUT) or other facilities. Given the strong accommodation capacities, with 86 beds available at Kavajë Hospital to serve not only the residents of Kavajë and Rrogozhina but also this important dimension of tourism, and considering Kavajë’s strategic geographic position in the heart of Albania, the hospital can effectively function as a first‑aid reception center. He expressed gratitude to all doctors and nurses for their dedication and emphasized the potential for further capacity expansion.”

Balla further underscored the importance of human resource-development policies for medical staff, including salary increases and the continuous enhancement of the standards for healthcare service delivery.

The Municipal Hospital of Kavajë, now fully renovated and equipped with modern facilities, provides improved infrastructural and medical standards. It is capable of delivering a broad range of healthcare services to local residents and surrounding communities, while also accommodating the increased demand during the tourist season.
