During the meeting held this Tuesday, the City Council—with votes from both the majority and the opposition—approved the proposal to confer the title of “Honorary Citizen” of Tirana upon the four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army: Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi was named an honorary citizen with the following citation: “For his invaluable contribution to the Kosovo Liberation War, his political leadership, and Kosovo’s journey toward freedom and independence—achieved with the steadfast support of the United States and Euro-Atlantic partners—and for his special bond with Tirana and the strengthening of relations between Kosovo and Albania.”

Kadri Veseli, “Presented in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the Kosovo Liberation Army and Kosovo’s journey toward freedom and independence, achieved with the steadfast support of the United States and its Euro-Atlantic partners. This honor also celebrates his deep, personal connection to Tirana and his enduring commitment to strengthening the bonds of cooperation between Kosovo and Albania.”

Jakup Krasniqi, for “His invaluable contribution to the Kosovo Liberation War, its political representation, and Kosovo’s journey toward freedom and independence, achieved with the steadfast support of the United States and its Euro-Atlantic partners. It also honors his long-standing connection to Tirana, which served as a vital hub of political and civic support for Kosovo.”

Rexhep Selimi, for “His invaluable contribution to the Kosovo Liberation Army and Kosovo’s journey toward freedom and independence, achieved with the steadfast support of the United States and its Euro-Atlantic partners. It also recognizes his special bond with Tirana—a capital city that stood firmly by Kosovo and its people during the darkest days of the war.” /p.s./
