The event was attended by the chairman of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, along with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Andis Salla.

In his remarks, Balla underlined the importance of Librazhd region as one of Albania’s leading honey producers, known for both quality and variety.

Balla also invited visitors to explore the region’s tourism potential.

“Librazhd offers year-round tourism thanks to its vast territory and numerous mountain destinations. What makes this area truly special is not only the breathtaking nature but also the hospitality of its people and its delicious traditional cuisine,” he added.

TIRANA, May 20 /ATA/ – Albania’s beekeeping culture and honey production has been growing over the past few years, becoming a profitable activity among farmers across the country.

In a statement on the World Honey Bee Day on Saturday, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Anila Denaj said that fiscal policies, incentives and direct financial support have helped the beekeeping sector to grow, with the number of beehives and honey production increasing significantly.

“Fiscal policies, the zero VAT rate on imported bees have helped the number of beehives to grow by 8.3% to 518 790 in 2023, whereas the honey production rose 4.4% year-on-year,” Agriculture Minister said in a post on the social media.

A new law on beekeeping entered into force on May 1 in compliance with the European Union directives. The legislation formalizes and regulates production, transportation, packaging and processing of beekeeping products, aiming to further increase domestic honey production and exports.

Albania has been included on the list of 115 leading producers of natural honey worldwide, according to a report released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations last year, saying that honey production and beekeeping account for a significant part of agriculture sector in many countries throughout the world.

Climate, plants and beekeeping practices affect the taste and texture of honey in different ways.
