TIRANA, Dec 13 /ATA/ Albana Koçiu, Minister of Health and Social Protection, highlighted that expanding home –based healthcare coverage is a top priority in the Health and Social Protection sector.

During the conference “Ensuring the Sustainability of Home-based Healthcare Services for the Elderly,” Minister Koçiu highlighted that the involvement of civil society, critical thinking, and constructive discussions are key elements in enhancing collaborative efforts.

“The home-based healthcare service is a vital, essential, and important service not only for the elderly but also for all those who are unable to access healthcare and social structures,” emphasized the minister. She also highlighted the recent launch, two weeks ago, of new professional figures dedicated to this cause, such as psychologists, social workers, physiotherapists, and others.

According to her, two out of the four professional roles are crucial for providing home-based healthcare services. “These are the socio-healthcare operator and the personal caregiver. Two of the four professional roles we launched, and I strongly believe that by enhancing the professionalism of these two positions, we will create the opportunity to serve all those who are unable to leave their homes with even greater quality,” emphasized the minister.

Koçiu emphasized that, as part of the “Health for All” project funded by the Swiss government, many citizens who were unable to access healthcare centers have received support.
