PRISHTINA, May 21/ATA/ Today, at the “Skanderbeg” square in Pristina, there was held the opening ceremony of the largest international military exercise in the Balkan region. Attending the event were President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Minister of Defense Armend Mehaj.

President of Kosovo Osmani stated that the international exercise “Defender Europe ’23” is a symbol of collective determination to maintain peace and stability in a world that is constantly being challenged.

Osmani appreciated this exercise historic for the country, especially for the youngest army on the continent of Europe, for the Kosovo Security Force.

“The main objective is to demonstrate the military and combat capability of the US and allied forces against potential aggressors. This exercise is historic in many aspects, especially for the youngest army in the European continent, for our security force”, said Osmani.

Meanwhile, PM Kurti emphasized that the “Defender Europe 2023” is the biggest military exercise event that has ever happened in Kosovo.

“Over 1,300 soldiers of our forces will do military exercise. I assure you that you will continue to have the support of the government and state institutions in professional development and growth”, said Kurti.

On his part, Minister of Defense Mehaj stated that Kosovo’s journey is clear, the membership in NATO and they are constantly working to meet this goal.

“The Republic of Kosovo will have over 1,300 soldiers; we will be the fourth country with the most soldiers who will be participants. Our path is clear, our destination is one and only, membership in NATO”, said Mehaj.

The US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier expressed his happiness that Kosovo is one of the biggest contributors.

After the ceremony, citizens had the opportunity to see from very close some of the units, equipment and vehicles of the country’s army.
