The trail takes you through a forest of chestnut trees and is designed to create an overreaching experience for the visitors, connecting the Muçi Peak with the resort lake town of Pogradec, combining the stunning landscape with the area’s traditional and historical values.

The Municipality of Pogradec shared Tuesday images showing groups of young people and tourists hiking along this trail as part of the local tour offer and packages, as the lake town of Pogradec has become a top tourist destination that is increasingly diversifying its tourist offer.

The 8-km long trail is beautiful, versatile and easy hike, largely through chestnut forests. It offers beautiful and changing views. Best in the chestnut harvesting season, when the colours of the leaves change and people are busy harvesting chestnuts. Hikers can also visit the chestnut wood, the Church of Saint Sunday in Kabash etc.

Showcasing the staggering beauty of these least visited mountains and valleys, the trail has become a major mountain tourism destination in the region and beyond.

A final event of High Scardus Trail organized in collaboration with local partners, travel and leisure operators and tourism experts marked the end of the preparation work on the tourism product, as well as successful conclusion of the first season of the hiking trail.

The 495-km trail passes through six national parks; one in Kosovo, two in North Macedonia, and three in Albania.

A lot of work remains to be done, and the group working to further promote the trail says it’s well on its way to encouraging enthusiasts to start planning their climbing adventure for 2024, where a new experience awaits them.
