TIRANA, Nov 5 /ATA/ In the draft budget for 2024, 51 million ALL are earmarked for the construction of the connecting road Vlora International Airport (VIA) – Fier-Vlora highway.

During this year, the fund was 30 million ALL, while in 2025 a budget allocation of 69.2 million ALL is planned for investment.

The connection of the Airport with the national road system takes on great importance for the flow of travelers and freight transport which must take the shortest and most economical way to connect with the national axes of the country and popular destinations.
Vlora International Airport (VIA), one of the strategic investments for tourism and the Albanian economy, is taking shape on the ground to become the main airport of the country, which will operate with more than 3 business models: civil aviation, aircraft maintenance, a real cargo, which the Albanian state is lacking.

VIA will be the gateway to the south of Albania and the engine of tourism development. It is expected to increase Albania’s air connections by removing TIA’s monopoly. In this way, the competition between VIA and TIA will reduce flight prices, which will also increase the total number of passengers.

This airport will contribute to the overall economic growth of the country and will transform the south of Albania into a tourist attraction, able to attract foreign direct investment thanks to an airport located less than 1 hour away from tourist and urban attractions.

Once the Vlora airport is set to operation, the country will benefit from the low-cost routes that will be launched in the market, as well as encourage investors to develop the airport and tourism infrastructure in the area.
