According to media reports, the High Court today dismissed the appeal lodged by Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj, who had sought the substitution of the measure of pre-trial detention with a less restrictive preventive measure, such as bail or an obligation to report to the judicial police. Veliaj has been subject to pre-trial detention since 10 February 2025.

According to SPAK, Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj faces 13 charges, including nine counts of passive corruption, money laundering, failure to declare assets, misconduct in public office, and the introduction of prohibited items into a place of detention.
