TIRANA, Aug 2 /ATA/ – Doctors may face hefty fines up to 1 million lek or risk losing their licence for violating the “Doctor’s Order” and the new regulations to prevent doctors working in the public sector from treating the same patients in private clinics.

The Deputy Health Minister Entela Kolovani explained in a televised interview on Friday that the recent regulations are aimed at providing the most quality care to patients.

“The disciplinary measures against doctors include suspension, permanent revocation of the licence as well as fines ranging from 100 000 lek to one million lek,” Kolovani said.

Asked about the possible measures that can be imposed on the heads of service at public hospitals, Kolovani clarified that under the new legal changes, they are now prohibited from operating private clinics or they should decide whether they want to work in the country’s public or private health system.

The new regulations also impose limits on the working hours for medical professionals engaged in both sectors, aiming to maintain a balanced workload and ensure compliance with legal standards.

Disciplinary measures will be enforced for violations of these new rules, reinforcing Albania’s commitment to a fair and ethical healthcare system.
