The Guard of the Republic reacted on Thursday to the statements of Berisha and the group of opposition MPs who claimed that one of the Guard’s employees was armed.

“With regards to the claim of some opposition MPs, that the Guard employees in the hall carried firearms in the plenary session hall, the Guard of the Republic clarifies that this claim is completely untrue,” the press release states.

“None of the employees of the Guard of the Republic, as provided by the legislation in force, carried firearms inside the hall where the plenary session takes place. The Guard of the Republic remains committed to exercise all the responsibilities and duties assigned, in order to uphold the law,” the announcement of the Guard of the Republic reads.
