TIRANA, Sept 24 /ATA/ Albania could receive up to 1 billion euros in funding from the European Union to support its integration process and the implementation of planned reforms by 2027.

The announcement was made by Sigrid Brettel, a European Commission representative, during a meeting in Tirana today focused on evaluating the management of funds allocated so far under the “Growth Plan.”

“Albania has already received an initial payment of 64.5 million euros, while the remaining funds will continue to be disbursed if the necessary steps for implementing the reforms are fulfilled,” she said. Brettel emphasized that this process is intended to support the country’s ambitious reforms and test Albania’s ability to successfully manage even more complex European funds in the future, as a member of the European Union.

The Growth Plan Monitoring Committee convened in Tirana under the leadership of SASPAC, the institution in charge of allocating the EU funds in the country.

According to SASPAC Director Eridana Çano, the Growth Plan is designed to speed up reforms, boost the economy, promote digitalization, enhance the energy system, and strengthen the rule of law, while ensuring that every euro invested delivers measurable outcomes.

The discussions underscored the progress made in different reform areas, while it was also noted that the European Commission will soon release an evaluation report detailing Albania’s achievements to date and providing recommendations for the next steps.

This process continues to represent a vital opportunity for Albania’s economic and institutional development on its journey toward European Union membership.
