PRISHTINA, Sept. 16 /ATA/ – Richard Grenell, a former ambassador and U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions, on Wednesday criticised the conviction of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague and called on Prime Minister Albin Kurti to move quickly to dissolve the court.

In a post on social media, Grenell described the conviction of Hashim Thaçi over the 1998-99 Kosovo war as outrageous.

“The Hague Court’s announced conviction of Hashim Thaçi from a war 25 years ago is outrageous. No one is safe from these international courts where academic elites make political decisions. These 3 judges and the American prosecutor are left wing loons. They clearly didn’t listen to the Bill Clinton advisors who made clear that Thaçi wasn’t running the war,” Grenell stated.

“Swiss Judge Guenael Mettraux was the real leader ignoring legal issues and instead opting for Jack Smith’s politics,” Grenell wrote.

Grenell also called for the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Justice Department to act quickly, saying American taxpayers were funding what he described as politically motivated prosecutions and that this should end.

“All these courts must be defunded immediately. The Justice Department and Attorney General Todd Blanche should act quickly. Americans are paying for these political prosecutions and it must stop,” he said.

“Albin Kurti must also act quickly to dissolve this foreign Court. Members of Parliament should work with Kurti to make it happen. Kosovo doesn’t need a court in the Netherlands,” Grenell concluded.

TIRANA, Dec 18 /ATA/ – Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions of United States, Richard Grenell, on Thursday commented on Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama’s visit to The Hague, where he met former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi.

Grenell said Rama was right to criticize the legal case brought by Jack Smith against Thaçi, adding that it shamed Europeans for allowing injustice to continue.

“NATO ally and Albania Prime Minister Edi Rama eviscerates the Jack Smith legal case against former President Thaci at The Hague – and shames the Europeans for allowing the injustice to continue. Jack Smith is a disgrace. Rama is right,” Grenell wrote on X.

Rama visited Thaçi, who has been in pre-trial detention since November 2020. On social media, Rama said he found Thaçi calm despite “absurd restrictions on basic rights”.

The government head described the detention of Thaçi and other former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders as “outrageous injustice in the heart of democratic Europe, backed by the taxpayers’ funds of democratic countries.”

According to the published report, Grenell has tried to include in the agenda of President Trump’s son a visit to Tirana to meet PM Rama.

Grenell reacted in the x platform where he also attached the article while asking Director of Communications in the Democratic Party Alfred Lela to deny it since there is no truth.

“Dear

Alfred Lela,

I realize you are days away from an important election. I understand emotions are high. I have watched your election silently from the sidelines because Albania is an important and trusted NATO ally of America (and one of my favorite countries to visit & vacation in).

But this story from your outlet is A TOTAL LIE.

It should be corrected immediately and removed if you care about facts”, Grenell wrote in x platform.

Meanwhile, President Trump’s son reacted by reposting Grenell’s reaction in the x platform.

Likewise, Prime Minister Edi Rama said during a meeting today in Petrela that the US president’s family members were forced to deny the madness of the opposition. /p.s./

TIRANA, March 18 /ATA/ – The United States Presidential Envoy for Special Missions Richard Grenell has shared a statement by Prime Minister Edi Rama, slamming the Special Court decision, denying former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi permission to attend his father’s funeral.

Grenell took to the social media platform X on Tuesday to share the post by Rama, who criticized the Court’s decision, stating “the tribunal has turned international justice into a charade.”

“A new low from a shameful and shameless tribunal that has turned international justice into a charade, democratic rights into empty words, and the goodwill of the Kosovo Parliament into the most brutal of boomerangs!” PM Rama said a day ago in his statement, which is supported by Grenell, who reposted it on the social media platform X.

Haxhi Thaçi, father of former Kosovo Liberation Army leader and Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, passed away two days ago after battling a serious illness at University Hospital in Prishtina.

On March 13, after multiple refusals, the Hague Tribunal granted Hashim Thaçi a temporary visit to Kosovo to see his father for what would be their final meeting. He returned to Hague after a three-hour visit.

Thaçi has been in detention in The Hague since November 2020, facing war crimes and crimes against humanity charges.

TIRANA, Feb 17 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated Monday that “the longer former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi remains detained in The Hague, “the bigger the stain on the international justice body.”

The government head shared a social media message by US President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions, Richard Grenell, who stated that “President Hashim Thaçi should be celebrating today in Prishtina – not behind bars in The Hague.”

“Absolutely! And the more it continues, the bigger the stain on the international justice body!” Rama said as he shared Grenell’s message.

Congratulating Kosovo on its 17th independence anniversary, Grenell stated that former President Hashim Thaçi is being kept unjustly in The Hague.

“This milestone is overshadowed by a grave injustice. The founding father of Kosovo’s statehood, President Hashim Thaçi, should be celebrating today in Prishtina – not behind bars in The Hague,” Grenell wrote on the social media platform X.

According to him, Kosovo’s state institutions have failed to take the necessary legal actions to bring this injustice to an end to what he calls “injustice”.

“The Europeans have failed to act against this injustice for the past 5 years. And Kosovo’s state institutions have failed to take the necessary legal actions to bring this injustice to an end – because of politics. This wrongful imprisonment must end,” Grenell stated.

TIRANA, June 25 /ATA/ – The former Donald Trump’s special presidential envoy to the Western Balkans, Richard Grenell, held an interview with the Prime Minister Edi Rama as he co-hosted Wake Up America show on the American TV channel Newsmax, with the questions focusing on the European Union’s failure to set a date for the first intergovernmental conference with Albania.

Presenting its guests, Newsmax TV said: “meet the key man who helped former President Trump orchestrate one of many success stories of the US foreign policy, namely the talks between Kosovo and Serbia. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama made the headlines again this week and he will join us soon. You are watching Wake Up America only on NewsMax”.

Rob Finnerty: Good morning, welcome to Wake Up America. I am Rob Finnerty. On my side I have my co-host this week. Former director of the national intelligence service and former US Ambassador to Germany is with us today. For many years he worked directly with President Trump on foreign policy issues. That administration was certainly pretty successful, especially in mediating peace agreements for Israel, and that success extended far beyond the Middle East. Ric was there on behalf of President Trump, as the President’s envoy for the talks between Serbia and Kosovo. The key for them was Albania and at the core of those talks was the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, who will be with us this morning from Tirana.

Richard Grenell: I would like to start right away with something. Yesterday you made the headlines by criticizing the EU’s failure to launch the accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia. We know this has been an important issue in the Balkans. Can you comment on what your message was yesterday to the EU?

PM Edi Rama: It is more the same, because on one hand they assess we are ready to start the formal negotiations by calling the first intergovernmental conference, and, on the other hand, the EU Council is not able to take a decision. Of course this has to do with some issues that popped up between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, still for us it is quite frustrating and, at the same time, it is quite revealing, frankly, because the bad thing of it is that we are getting used to the fact that the EU is failing over and over again to deliver on its promises.

Richard Grenell: What specifically are the EU leaders saying to you as the reasons the accession talks are stalled?

PM Edi Rama: They are practically not saying anything, because, as I said, they have made the assessment and every one of them has practically assessed that Albania is ready and start the talks. Yet, on the other hand, there is no decision, because the EU is based on this fully consensual mechanism of the decision-making and it would be enough that just one country has an issue, and in this case an issue between Bulgaria and North Macedonia, and everything blows. It is like feeling part of an extension of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and instead of Vladimir and Estragon, in his book is Albania and North Macedonia.

Richard Grenell: I strongly hope we can get to the point where the American leadership is pushed forward again. You know the last administration made a lot of progress on the economic normalization in the Balkans. One idea that emerged from those talks was the idea of a Mini-Schengen zone. What do you think of this idea and what is the status of it right now?

PM Edi Rama: First of all, Ambassador, I have to repeat today that you are not anymore in that role. What I have said when you were in that role is that you really have a very important contribution, showing by examples and not by words that it is possible although in the meantime there is a big unresolved issue of recognition of Kosovo from Serbia and vice-versa, it is possible to improve the lives of the people, it is possible to work together on what, of course the governments in these countries cannot disagree, improving trade, improving economic cooperation, improving freedom of movement of capital, services and so on and so forth. For sure, this is what I have also advocated since years now and thanks also to the example you gave, this became even more tangible. I have just to recall here what you did to install freedom of movement through flights, which was unimaginable.

Richard Grenell: A very important aspect of trying to get normalization on the economic side. I want to ask you about the State Department’s recent announcement sanctioning some Albanians from coming to the US. What are your thoughts on these designations and what does this mean going forward?

PM Edi Rama: I would say that on one hand it is really sad to see this reality we know very well being kind of sealed by a very bold move on the State Department side, but on the other hand it is also quite a signal that the ongoing effort of the American government, both the previous and the current administration, to push for the justice reform and the justice system transformation in Albania has reached the point of no return. To me this was a big loudly announcement of the end of transition and the end of the notion of impunity. Nobody is above the law.

Richard Grenell: Mr. Prime Minister, we have come to the end of our interview. Thank you so much for joining us.

Edi Rama: Thank you Ambassador.

Richard Grenell: Prime Minister Edi Rama from Albania.

Edi Rama: Again, it is a pleasure and an honor. You are always welcome to this region, especially in Albania. We look forward to meeting you here.

Richard Grenell: Thank you very much. We will be back again.
