The investment based on standardized business models amounts to over 200 million ALL.

The Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development announces that, as part of the 2022 scheme, it has supported the greenhouse sector with about 200 million ALL, for the construction of new greenhouses, or for reducing production costs.

Through the subsidy scheme in 2022, more than 800 applicant farmers cultivated more than 900 ha of vegetable greenhouses at lower costs. While the production area in greenhouses has increased by 2 100 ha through state subsidies and the IPARD program.

According to the ARDA, this continuous support has sat well with farmers, which is reflected in a very high number of applications even for the measure of 2023, with as many as 911 applicants.

The region of Berat has the highest regional concentration of greenhouses, where ARDA has financed 240 projects, followed by the region of Fier with 179 projects financed.

Durrës, Shkodra and Tirana have also considerable areas where tomatoes and cucumbers are grown in greenhouses. The projects supported by the state budget have been financed for greenhouses with technical and central heating for the replacement of plastic, the construction of new greenhouses with solar heating as well as the high tunnel melon and watermelon production.

According to agricultural statistics, this year the total production of greenhouse-grown vegetables for exports has increased to 42% from 30% a year ago.
