The aim of this project is to improve the access to medical care, education and other administrative services for rural residents as well as strengthen the response to natural disasters in the mountainous areas of southeastern Albania by improving the capacity to manage and maintain community roads.

During the ceremony, Ambassador KATO reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting the people of Albania from a human security perspective and the importance of implementing socio-economic development projects that will lead the improvement of living conditions in rural areas of southeastern Albania. She wished that the backhoe loader would contribute to provide a safer living environment for all community residents. She also mentioned that through this project the relations between Japan and Albania would be further strengthened. Ms. Gusho stated the importance of the project and expressed her gratitude to the Government and people of Japan.

Priority areas of Japan’s ODA (Official Development Assistance) in Albania are Environment and Equitable Growth. GGP is provided to local governments, educational or medical institutions, and NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water management and disaster prevention since 1998.
