Mr. Takada Mitsuyuki and the Mayor of Lushnjë, Dr. Eriselda Sefa, in the framework of Japan’s Grant scheme “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” (GGP). This project of EUR 71,400 aims to enhance the waste management capacities of Lushnjë Municipality focusing on improving its waste collection infrastructure by providing a brand-new garbage truck.

The signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of Japan in Tirana. During the ceremony, Ambassador Takada expressed that this project would contribute to improving the waste management sector of Lushnjë Municipality, by upgrading its waste management infrastructure and waste collection service coverage. Mayor Sefa expressed her appreciation to Japan and the Ambassador for the support given to Lushnjë and Albania overall, and her commitment to improving waste management in her municipality.

Japan’s ODA in Albania focuses on Environmental Development and Equitable Growth. One of its ODA Grant schemes is the “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP) which is being implemented in Albania since 1998. Each year the Government of Japan provides funding through this scheme to support public institutions, local government authorities, or NGOs with projects in the fields of waste management, health care, disaster prevention, environmental protection, etc. Ever since the establishment of the Embassy in Tirana in 2017, the Embassy has awarded 43 grant contracts under the GGP scheme with a total amount of about 3.3 million Euro.
