TIRANA, June 29 /ATA/ The Albanian government approved on Thursday the decision to grant a scholarship equal to the minimum monthly salary to students who will study programs such as teaching, agriculture or tourism.

The news was announced by the Minister of Education and Sports, Evis Kushi, in a media briefing.

“Today the Council of Ministers approved a decision that is very good news for all high school -leavers who have decided to continue their higher education studies, but also for universities that want to strengthen or revitalize some study programs that have not been very popular with young people recently. Specifically, it is about the decision we took last year about priority programs and financial support for excellent students and students who study these priority programs. Currently, according to the decision that is in force, we have announced a list of priority programs such as agriculture, some engineering degrees, tourism, teaching,” said Kushi.

Meanwhile, the minister continued, all those high school graduates who have a grade point average above 8.5 and who choose one of these priority programs are entitled to a monthly scholarship equal to the minimum wage.

“Their obligation is to stay and contribute in the country for three years upon their graduation. And the same scholarship equal to the monthly minimum salary also applies to the excellent students with straight -10 GPA in Matura and top scores in the matura exams, just like those who win international competitions,” said Kushi.
