In an official request forwarded to Parliament, the DP senior official underlines that “the composition of the Council of Ministers is not a private product of the Prime Minister, who enjoys the constitutional right to propose his cabinet only, but their appointment is an institutional interaction between the three institutions, Prime Minister-President of the Republic-Assembly of Albania. In this case, the Assembly of Albania cannot have a formal role, only in certifying the personal will of the Prime Minister, but it must discuss and evaluate the issued proposals and decrees.”

At today’s session, due to begin at 05:00 pm, lawmakers will discuss the draft decisions on dismissal and appointment of the new government ministers after President Bajram Begaj issued a decree approving the reshuffle of the cabinet of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Taulant Balla has been reassigned from his role as Minister of the Interior to become the new Minister of State for Relations with Parliament. Stepping into Balla’s former position is Ervin Hoxha, who will now take office as Interior Minister.

Niko Peleshi will chair the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group after being dismissed as Defence Minister. Pirro Vëngu will be appointed as Defence Minister. Ervin Mete will make way for Petrit Malaj, who will take over as Minister of Finance.

Elisa Spiropali has also been reassigned from her role as the State Minister for the Relations with Parliament to take over as Speaker of Parliament following resignation of Lindita Nikolla over health issues last week.

Bledi Çuçi will serve as Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
