TIRANA, Dec 15 /ATA/ The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, participated in the meeting organized by the Albanian Association of Banks, on the occasion of year-end holidays.

Sejko said that, like every year, he looks forward to the moment of meeting with the banking industry, where together we take stock of our achievements and efforts during the past year, share the best experiences, and reset our priorities for the coming year.

In his remarks, the governor focused on the general economic situation of the country.

“The performance of the Albanian economy, during 2022, was marked by the rapid increase in prices and inflation in world markets, after Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. This supply shock brought another major challenge to the Albanian economy, dictating the need to review public economic policies and business plans of the private sector and the banking industry,” he said.

“Let me emphasize that this subsequent shock found the Albanian economy in a sound economic position, in the follow-up to the rapid post-pandemic recovery during 2021, – said Sejko, noting that, – that situation found a consolidated monetary and financial stability in the country.”

“This stability is reflected in the country’s sound financial balances, in the consolidation of confidence in the banking sector, as well as in the reduction of risk premiums. Also, it is anchored in the positive experience that we, as public institutions and you as the financial sector, have built in coping with such shocks”, the Governor emphasized.

Although the risks remain present, BoA projections suggest that inflation will return to the target during the first half of 2024 and that the Albanian economy will continue to maintain positive rates of economic growth during this period.
