TIRANA, October 31 /ATSH/ – The Democratic Party (DP) called for a national protest this midday in support of the student uprising.

Democratic Party MPs left the party headquarters and marched toward the main boulevard, heading for the Prime Minister’s Office to show their support for the students.

DP leader Sali Berisha stated that the Democratic Party would offer its full support to the students.

It is reported that DP MPs engaged in a dispute with the police on the boulevard, as they claimed that citizens were being prevented from joining the protest.

MP Belind Këlliçi told the media that these actions are signs of panic, referring to what he described as the obstruction of university lecturers on the boulevard.

In a statement to the media, DP MP Flamur Noka said: “Today, there is only one message: Edi Rama, step down—you cannot hold onto power through force. All Albanians share this single message, and today, as Democrats, we convey it here—along with the students who are out there.

There is only one message: Edi Rama, step down; you cannot hold onto power through force.”

“The students’ demands must be respected and their voices must be heard. The Democratic Party has supported, continues to support, and will keep supporting the students’ demands and the students themselves in their protest. We gathered here to begin the protest; now, the protest will continue alongside the students at the square where they began their battle,” Noka stated.

Later on, the DP supporters and MPs marched toward the Ministry of Education to join the students.

TIRANA, October 28 /ATSH/ – The government approved a normative act today providing for the compensation of material damages caused to businesses by acts of violence during protests that took place between October 13 and October 22, 2026.

The scheme provides for full compensation for damages to the movable and immovable property of private individuals or legal entities—categorized as businesses/taxpayers with an annual turnover of up to 14 million ALL, based on their 2025 annual declaration.

State compensation covers uninsured assets; for insured assets, damages are to be covered by the insurance company in accordance with the relevant insurance contract.

Following the entry into force of the normative act, affected entities must submit a compensation claim to the tax administration, accompanied by documentation and evidence regarding the damage incurred.

The tax administration shall verify the completeness of the documentation, gather preliminary information about the claimant, and forward the file to the Ministry of Economy and Innovation within five working days of receiving the claim. The Ministry subsequently requests the State Police to verify, within 30 days, whether the damage was caused during a violent protest and by the protesters.

In the absence of sufficient evidence, the request is denied, and the applicant is notified.

Following the payment of compensation, the State reserves the right to seek reimbursement of the amount paid from the party responsible for the damage.

For damages caused by minors or individuals lacking legal capacity, the liability of parents, guardians, or those tasked with supervision is determined in accordance with the provisions set forth in this act and the Civil Code.

Parties subject to a fine have the right to seek judicial review, in accordance with the rules and timeframes established by legislation governing the adjudication of administrative disputes. /p.s./

TIRANA, October 22 /ATSH/ – University lecturers and citizens have joined the students’ protest, which has now reached its tenth day.

Representatives from the “Political Dialogue” group—lecturers Ermal Hasimja and Aleksandër Biberaj—also joined the protest, which was held in front of the Parliament.

Speaking to the media, Biberaj expressed his support for the protest. “I would call upon the President of the Republic to consider the possibility of dissolving this Parliament, as it is failing to fulfill its mission,” he stated.

When asked if he was open to dialogue with PM Rama, he gave a firm “no,” emphasizing that, “Edi Rama is the absolute enemy of dialogue. We will remain in the streets until the cause of the young people is achieved. The youth will change this country.”

The “Political Dialogue” forum has called on lecturers across the country to join the initiative against the use of violence toward students.

During the gathering in front of Parliament, minor incidents broke out when a few protesters tried to tear down the security barriers, but were stopped by the police. The crowd has since moved to the Prime Minister’s Office. There, protesters toppled stone benches that Prime Minister Edi Rama had set up earlier this morning as a symbolic invitation for students to engage in dialogue.

TIRANA, October 10 /ATA/ – The civic protest against the planned investment in Zvërnec continued in the capital this afternoon, marking the 133rd consecutive day.

As on previous occasions, citizens gathered at Skanderbeg square before marching down ‘Martyrs of Nation’ boulevard.

Carrying placards and calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the protesters continued to voice their demands for the removal of the so-called old political “caste.”

In the square in front of the government building, the civil society activists reiterated their opposition to the tourism investment in Zvërnec area, as well as to policies regarding the protected areas and strategic investments.

Activist Arben Kola called on SPAK and the BKH to take action and arrest corrupt politicians.

“Marking 133 days of national awareness, we call upon the American Ambassador to recognize the deep bond between the Albanian and American peoples. Albania seeks strategic partnership and support to liberate itself from the grip of the narco-state and the illicit arms trade,” he said.

Speaking from the podium in front of the government, one of the protesters stated that no decision emerging from the Parliament—which he branded an “Assembly of crime”—should be recognized.

The protester emphasized that the dissolved municipalities should continue their work and disregard the decisions of a “sold-out” Parliament.

The protest, which began on May 31 in opposition to an investment project in the Zvërnec area, has expanded over the following weeks to include political and institutional demands. /p.s./

TIRANA, October 7 /ATA/ – By proposal of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the government decided today to grant a special state pension supplement to Qamile Marra, a 117-year-old woman from the village of Ferras in Berat.

According to the decision, Qamile Metan Marra will receive a special pension supplement equal to ten times the social pension. However, the total value of her pension—including this supplement and any other statutory benefits—cannot exceed twelve times the social pension.

Living to the remarkable age of 117, Mother Qamile has witnessed five generations of her family grow up. Her exceptional longevity and the vibrant energy she still brings to her daily chores have captured widespread media attention.

After a lifetime of working in agriculture—as she shared with the media—she now tends to her garden, surrounded by her family. Along with these personal details, her family members publicly expressed their hope for Mother Qamile to receive a special pension.

And now, the government has granted Qamile Meta Marra a special state pension supplement, providing increased financial support for her and her family.

TIRANA, September 21 /ATA/ – Citizens gathered in Skanderbeg square today and marched toward the government building, marking 114 consecutive days of protests against the planned investment in Zvërnec. Marching down “Martyrs of Nation” boulevard, the demonstrators voiced their strong opposition to the controversial tourism project in Zvërnec, as well as broader government policies concerning protected areas and strategic investments.

During the rally, citizens criticized the government and the political class, while protesters continued to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Holding placards, they expressed their opposition and called for civic unity across political and social divides. Several activists also spoke, urging continued public mobilization.

ctivist Edison Lika urged citizens to join Thursday’s protest outside Parliament, where lawmakers are expected to debate three controversial draft bills. Lika stated that even if parliamentary committees fail to review the bills, protesters will see it as a victory driven by civic pressure. He emphasized that demonstrations will continue until their demand for the government’s resignation is met. Meanwhile, activist Sidorela Vatnikaj argued that change can only be achieved if Albanians unite across political lines. She criticized long-standing policies, claiming authorities have consistently favored the wealthy at the expense of low-income citizens while leaving public services severely underfunded.

Protests against the government and the Zvërnec investment project have reached their 114th day, with members of the Albanian diaspora also joining the rallies throughout this period.

Later on, the protesters marched along “Martyrs of Nation” boulevard toward the government building, opposing the project and voicing demands regarding policies on protected areas and strategic investments.

During today’s protest, there were also conveyed messages through placards held by the demonstrators. These called for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and expressed opposition to the government.

Speaking in front of the government building, activist Edison Lika stated that the reforms undertaken by the Socialist Party (SP) have served only to consolidate its power.

“All the reforms the SP has launched over these years have not focused on the citizen, but solely on cementing its grip on power. This regime has cemented its power through vote-buying, vote-stealing and corruption,” he said.

Once the speeches concluded outside the government building, citizens proceeded with their nightly march along the capital’s main streets.

As part of the government reorganization, local government affairs will move to the Ministry of Interior.

During presentation of the change, Rama said that it is a reorganization of the governing team, emphasizing that Lamallari will move to the Prime Minister’s office to continue his engagement in another role.

“Besfort is moving from the Ministry of Interior leadership to join my team and me here at the Prime Minister’s Office,” said Rama, adding that local government issues will now be integrated into the structure of the Ministry of Interior.

The Prime Minister praised Lamallari’s work during his period at the helm of the Ministry of Interior, emphasizing that he will continue to cooperate with him in his new position.
