TIRANA, Nov 5 /ATA/ The Ambassador of the European Union in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, stated today that the Parliament and the political debates taking place there play a key role for citizens and reforms.

During the joint press conference alongside Prime Minister Edi Rama, when questioned by journalists about the progress report’s findings on the May 11 elections in Albania — including issues like political polarization and cross-party dialogue — Gonzato sent a clear message across to the political parties.

“This is a message I convey every day in my discussions with the members of parliament. The Parliament has an absolutely key role to play, and my call is for them to have the will and the opportunity to contribute to this reform process that will lead Albania toward the EU membership,” he said.
“We need constructive and meaningful debates, including critical ones, as Parliament is the primary forum for expressing diverse perspectives on Albania’s path to EU membership. Such discussions are crucial, as they allow citizens to understand the nature of the reforms, the rationale behind them, and their impact on daily life and businesses. This approach helps ensure that the reforms are sustainable in the long term, as people will see that these initiatives directly concern and benefit them,” Gonzato emphasized.
