TIRANA, March 21 /ATA/ Gjirokastra has already developed into a tourist and cultural destination thanks to investments and revitalization of the Bazaar area, where local and foreign tourists take in the sights of cultural heritage assets and enjoy the local culinary delights this area is famed for.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared views of the Gjirokastra Bazaar yesterday and today, highlighting the tangible transformation of the infrastructure.

“Good morning and with these few seconds from Gjirokastra Bazaar yesterday and today, I wish you a beautiful Sunday,” said Rama.

Bazaar Pass represents the heart of the historical center of the city of Gjirokastra, one of the most visited and favorite destinations, described as the gateway to the historic center.
The historical center of Gjirokastra is the main attraction for tourists. They have the opportunity to explore cultural monuments such as the house of the Skëndulaj or the Babameto turret house and of course the lofty castle.

The government investment enabled the construction of water supply systems, fiber optic cabling infrastructure, lighting system and water drainage, which was the most challenging part of the project on urban requalification and restoration of cobbled alleyways in Bazaar Pass.

The museum city of Gjirokastra is inscribed on UNESCO’s world heritage list for the Ottoman style architecture of dwellings and urban planning. Gjirokastra is among the unique cities in the Balkans that have preserved this Ottoman architectural feature to the present days.
