TIRANA, March 21 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Thursday that his gesture at a journalist during a media briefing a few days ago was entirely friendly, adding that it was exaggerated with the aim of manipulating the public.

In a televised interview, the prime minister said that a great deal of hysteria has ensued from all this.
“Meanwhile, for my part, in the past I may have had my moments and I may have found myself too eager to respond to journalists instantly, but for years now I have been completely available, calm and patient to answer all questions I have been faced with,” he said.

Rama emphasized that “the witnesses were also there and this is the biggest and most abhorrent manipulation that I have experienced in this whole world of fuss where it is deliberately stimulated.”

“I said it to some foreign outlets that hastened to write about this video. Under the principles of unbiased and correct reporting, they should have checked with journalists that were eyewitnesses. It was a totally friendly gesture, a totally friendly act to just pat her on the shoulder while I was walking away amicably,” he added.

“I owe no apology to anyone, and in this case the journalist who is the prototype of the unethical, deliberate interruption of all answers when asking her own questions, must confront the opinion of those colleagues of hers who come there to ask their questions,” he added.
While he considered all the journalists’ questions innocent, Rama said that “I have a problem with the ethics of a communication, since both parties are there to inform the public.”

“The whole media briefing went smoothly and my gesture was completely friendly, and apart from that, even that slap on the shoulders could not materialize because the journalist reacted as if she came under an aggression. You cannot consider an arm that approaches you as a push as you pull back,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister emphasized that “I find this culture very mean and as such it derails journalism and gives the worst example of how two people communicate with each other.”

“Exaggeration of that friendly gesture shows that this is not about a man who is unclear about what happened or frankly disturbed by the extension of his arm. This is about a journalist who has deliberately exaggerated her own reaction to produce all that ensued,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister said that he can definitely call anyone who misunderstands a gesture on his part made in a sincere way, but not actors.
“Being a person myself who comes from the free press, fighting for freedom of speech, I could have even lost my life for free speech, before I could not share this part of myself with the prime minister. Now I keep this part of myself separate from the prime minister, ” said Rama, referring to his previous reactions in press conferences.

“Repeatedly, the same journalist comes with a mission to deliberately interrupt the answers. Remote-controlled missionary from an information source that produces fake news time and again,” said Rama.
