TIRANA, Oct 6 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany Annalena Baerbock stated in Tirana on Friday that the EU expects Serbian government to take forward the investigations and contribute to clarification on a recent attack by masked Serb gunmen and Kosovo police and the ensuing shootout that left four people dead in northern Kosovo.

Baerbock commented on the most recent developments in Kosovo speaking during a joint press conference after the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tirana on Friday, an event that precedes the next Berlin Process Summit due on October 16 in the Albanian capital.

She stated that the sparks of past conflicts in the region must be extinguished once and for all.

“The provocations by through the military build-up on the Kosovo border have heated up the situation even further. This happened right after an insidious attack against the Kosovo Police by a terrorist group armed to the teeth. We expect the Serbian government to carry out investigations and contribute to clarifying the circumstances of the event,” she stated.

According to her, “the situation is so tense that NATO has enhanced its KFOR presence and through this signal we make it clear that we remain vigilant and contribute to the long term security.”

Baerbock also said that the key to resolving the conflict is in Belgrade and Pristina.

“There is no other alternative but for both Serbia and Kosovo to firmly commit to the implementation of the Ohrid agreement,” she stated.
