TIRANA, Feb  8  /ATA/ – By  I. Vata/ The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime brought to court the file of the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, in connection with the “Gërdeci” case.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, Tirana, announced on Wednesday that pursuant to decision no. 205, dated 24.09.2021 of the Special Court of Appeals for Corruption and Organized Crime, Tirana (which decided to overturn decision no. 6, dated 14.09.2009 of the Criminal College of the High Court for the dismissal of the criminal case against the defendant Fatmir Mediu), has registered the criminal proceeding no. 279 of 2021 and has conducted the preliminary investigations related to this criminal proceeding.

At the end of the preliminary investigations, a request was submitted to the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime to send to court the criminal case no. 279 of 2021, in charge of the defendant Fatmir Mediu, accused of the criminal offense “Abuse of duty” committed in complicity as well as for committing the criminal offense “Abuse of duty” in cooperation with a military subject-command personnel.

The defendant Fatmir Mediu is accused that, as part of the process of demilitarization and dismantling of ammunition carried out in the premises of the former “Tanks Brigade” in the village of Gërdec, Vorë Municipality, in cooperation with other officials of the Ministry of Defense as well as commanding officers, issued several by-laws in breach of the law and Council of Ministers Decision No. 138, dated 14. 03. 2007 “On the procedure for handling weapons, methods and equipment of the armed forces, disposed of, as part of the sale for dismantling and demilitarization of a quantity of ammunition”, which have harmed the legitimate interests of the state and resulted in unfair advantages to the companies SAC inc and Albademil sh.p.k.
