TIRANA, March 21 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke on Thursday about the request received from a group of investors, headed by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, for investments in the tourist area of Sazan.

Rama said in a televised interview that there is an expression of interest request submitted for Sazan, while he revealed that no project has been submitted either for Sazan or for the part of Zvernec so far.

Rama stated that the transformation of Sazan has been his ambition and of his predecessors.

The Prime Minister also informed that the government has received requests from other investors for investments in Sazan, but they were not accepted by the government because they did not align with the government’s vision.

“The group has submitted the expression of interest to AIDA. The request will pass through the filter of the Agency and then the other links. Meanwhile there will also be a detailed project, which has not been submitted yet,” said Rama.
Rama said that he hoped that Sazani would become the brightest jewel in the crown of Mediterranean tourism.
Rama added that he had discussed with Kushner the vision for the development of Sazan.

“A tourist destination, which has a high level of harmony between nature and man-made intervention and brings in consumers of the high-end tourism”, the Prime Minister said.

A destination, he continued, that puts Albania at the highest level, alongside other countries that have such addresses in their territory, and brings Albania a source of income for the state budget, from all that economic machinery that is created as a result of an investment in tourism.

According to him, this project is about bringing high- end tourism. Unlike mass tourism, it does not pollute and brings in a customer who contributes to the country’s economy because of the expenses that generate income equal to 100 backpackers”, he said.
The Prime Minister announced at the same time that the “urban renaissance” got the cities of Albania out of the abyss.
Rama went on saying that during the first 5-6 years of his government, no investor expressed interest to invest because they did not have confidence.

“From the first day I took office, I invited them to Albania. It has been difficult in the course of the first 5 or 6 years of my government in office. Nobody came to invest in tourism. We have made Albania an up –and- coming destination. Today, Albania has made a name for itself and is constantly making headlines. This did not come out of the blue. It did not come after 33 years of effort in Albania. In the first 5-6 years of my government in office, Albania could not lure people to make an investment in tourism, as the country was shrouded in a black veil of perception that it was not enticing. The “urban renaissance” got the cities of Albania out of the abyss. This government valued the cultural heritage, highlighted a picture -worthy Albania to be featured in a postcard of must-see destinations, and this is how the face of Albania began to change bit by bit,” said Rama.
