TIRANA, April 11 /ATA/ The Parliamentary Economy and Finance Commission approved Tuesday the 100 million ALL fund for financing political parties in the May 14 local elections.

In the 2019 local elections, the fund was 65 million ALL, while in the 2021 parliamentary elections the fund was 130 million ALL.

The Socialist Party MP, Blerina Gjylameti, proposed the amount of 100 million lek, which was approved by a majority of votes.

Director General for Budget and Debt, Mimoza Dhëmbi, present at the Commission meeting announced that the amount will be taken from the contingency fund of the Council of Ministers.

“The basic rule of the Electoral Code stipulates that the fund is determined by the decision of the Assembly and that the lowest permitted amount cannot be smaller than the fund allocated in the previous elections of the same type. On this basis, the lowest permitted value of the fund cannot be less than ALL 65 million, which was allocated for the 2019 campaign,” said Dhëmbi.
