TIRANA, March 10 /ATA/ Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, together with the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, and the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaci, held a meeting with the main companies in the hydrocarbons sector and the heads of the Hydrocarbons Association.

The meeting was held as part of ongoing monitoring of fuel prices and recent developments in international markets. During the discussion, participants analyzed price trends on the Mediterranean Platts exchange, which serves as a benchmark for diesel and gasoline. The discussion also covered the relationship between import prices, wholesale prices, and retail prices in the domestic market.

In this context, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation will take the following measures: Establish a daily monitoring mechanism for hydrocarbon prices in the domestic market; Conduct periodic analyses of the relationship between Platts exchange prices, import prices, and domestic sales prices; Maintain ongoing coordination with market operators and the Hydrocarbons Association to ensure transparency and market stability;

Provide the public with regular updates on price developments and the factors influencing them.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance will establish a joint task force comprising the tax and customs administrations, tasked with: Strengthening tax and customs oversight and efficiency in the hydrocarbons sector, across both wholesale and retail trade, to prevent unjustified increases in fuel trading prices; Monitoring profit margins across the entire hydrocarbons supply chain, from import to retail sale, ensuring that any price adjustments accurately reflect developments in international markets; Ensuring full compliance with legal and fiscal obligations, including proper registration of all sales and verification that traded fuels meet all applicable customs and taxation requirements.

Authorities emphasized that current international market conditions require prompt institutional action to maintain market stability and protect Albanian consumers. Daily monitoring of international and domestic markets will continue, with necessary measures taken to address any unjustified price deviations.

Institutions remain committed to ensuring transparency, fair competition, and the protection of consumer interests in Albania’s hydrocarbons market.
