TIRANA, December 5/ATA/ Albania’s Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has prioritized child protection systems in the country.

The Ministry reported that for the first time, there is being drafted a law on foster families, a step that guarantees that no child is left without care.

According to the ministry, this draft law, proposed by this ministry, protects the rights of children without parental care or at risk of losing them, by placing them in a safe, supportive and inclusive family environment, always in accordance with the principle of the best interest of the child.

The new Law on Alternative Care, which is being finalized, is one of the main pillars of the deinstitutionalization reform and a key commitment within the framework of Chapter 23 of the accession negotiations into the European Union.

The law is expected to modernize the entire care system for children who cannot grow up with their parents, setting new standards in guaranteeing the best interest of the child and building a functional model of professional care. /e.i/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, August 22 /ATA/ Back from the USA, at the age of 29 Arianna decided to become a foster mother of two children from the orphanage in Korça.

Together with her husband, Tomas, they opened not only their home, but also their hearts.

Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu, highlighted their example in the social media, writing that, “This story is evidence of the power of love and family care”.

“We are working on a new legal framework, aligned with the EU standards and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to further strengthen the alternative care system and to reform residential care institutions into family-centered services”, underlined Koçiu.

The minister emphasized that, “Our goal is for every child to grow up in a family, with love, security and opportunities for a better future”.

Arianna said that she has been a foster parent for 7 months. “I have custody of two children. I actually asked the municipality for this type of program myself,” Arianna said.

On her part, Coordinator of the Center for Child and Family Support Services in Korça Mamica Shishi said that, “One of the services that the Center for Child and Family Support Services offers is the identification and empowerment of foster families. After a campaign that raised awareness that we carried out in the city of Korça, we were offered the family of Tom and Arianna”.

Director of Social Services in Korça Marjana Jorgji stated that, “Every child deserves love, security and a place to call home”.
