TIRANA, Nov 10 /ATA/ – The Europe’s single currency kept losing further ground against Albania’s national currency, whereas the U.S. Dollar slightly appreciated in the local market on Friday.

According to the Bank of Albania’s fixed rate, the Euro depreciated by 0.11 lek against Lek compared to a day ago in the domestic market and was traded at 104.42 Lek on Friday,

The U.S. Dollar was exchanged at 97.84 Lek, slightly up by 0.06 points compared to a day ago.

The Great Britain’s Pound also depreciated by 0.67 points and was exchanged at 119.47 Lek.

The Swiss Franc was traded at 108.49 Lek or 0.11 Lek less than on Thursday.

Economy experts think that the continued depreciation of the leading currencies during this period is the result of a very high foreign currency offer in the local market.

TIRANA, Oct 9 /ATA/ – The Albanian national currency lek recorded a continued and relatively sharp appreciation against the European single currency in the first half of 2023, mainly driven by the net foreign currency inflows from tourism and foreign direct investments in the country.

At the end of the first half of the year, one euro was traded at 106.4 lek, showing that Albanian currency recorded an appreciation by 7% compared to the same period of the previous year and by 11% compared to the previous year.

The Bank of Albania says that lek appreciation accelerated at the end of first six months of 2023, with its value increasing by 3% in the domestic exchange market in June alone.

Central bank data show that the national currency has also recorded relatively significant appreciation against the U.S. dollar.

A U.S. dollar was exchanged at 99.1 lek in the end of June, showing appreciation of the national currency by 9% compared to the same period of 2022 and 13% compared to the previous year.

During this period, the central bank has kept holding auctions to purchase euro according to a calendar and in a bid to increase the foreign exchange reserve, estimating that the exchange rate fluctuations are within the central bank’s projections.
