TIRANA, April 19 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday morning shared images from the weekends in Fishtë, promoting the area as one of the most attractive agrotourism destinations in the country. Through a video, he invited tourists and Albanian citizens to visit this charming village in the heart of Zadrima.

Fishta, located only 17 kilometers from Lezha and about an hour away from Tirana, has seen significant development in recent years, particularly in the agrotourism sector. In this area, a number of guesthouses and modern farms have been established, mainly run by farmers who have returned from emigration. They have applied the experience gained abroad, building sustainable household economies and contributing to the revival of the rural area.

The development of agrotourism in Lezhë has also boosted demand for organic and locally produced goods, thereby establishing a sustainable cycle between producers and the market. This economic model is increasingly regarded as a successful example of the integration of agriculture with tourism.

Nestled within the gentle hills of Zadrima, Fishta has become a popular destination for families from Tirana, Durrës, Shkodra, and Kosovo who seek tranquility, fresh air, and traditional cuisine away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Beyond its natural beauty and culinary offerings, the village also holds significant cultural value, as it is the birthplace of Gjergj Fishta, one of the most distinguished figures in Albanian literature.

Fishta has been part of the government’s ‘100 Villages’ initiative, a program designed to promote rural development through tourism and preservation of cultural heritage, while simultaneously curbing emigration by creating economic opportunities within the country. The village exemplifies a community where residents are actively engaged in employment, primarily within guesthouses and agriculture, supplying local businesses directly. This model has fostered the emergence of a vibrant and functional economy, positioning Fishta as a benchmark for sustainable rural development in Albania.
